Good Times/Sad Times

Well, it's not all fun and games (and work) at the farm.  Last week we all noticed that Newt was loosing weight quickly and feeling pretty bad.  We got her into the vet and had some blood work done.  It seems that Newt is in renal failure and doesn't have much more time in this existence or incarnation.  Newt's mother, Ripply, was Alton's original dog when Dwayne and he first met, and her life ended in the same way.  It has hung an air of somberness, as watching a good friend leave often does.  The guys have displayed exceptional creativity in finding ways to keep her eating.  Right now she has chosen those little cocktail smokies. She finds them to be delicious.

On Friday night we headed into Saskatoon to see Macy Gray at the Sasktel Saskatchewan Jazz Festival.  She was incredible, as well as a very much needed diversion from what's going on here.  The concert was outdoors behind this big beautiful building that I believe was at one time a castle, then a train station/hotel, and is now a hotel.  It was a smaller venue and we all stood right up front about 20 feet from her.  I think I could see her tonsils.  See her if you ever get the chance.  She puts on a really good show.

Yesterday it rained.  The first in quite awhile and we probably needed it, but you never know by listening to Dwayne's complaining about the rain. Today the sun is out, but too wet in the garden.  Another greatly appreciated day off.  "HE" made us work on the 4th!  But we did take Canada Day off (July 1st), barbequed and had a big fire in the pit.

  1. I think I finally figured out this blog thing. I have been trying to since July but with no success. I am not that accomplished on the computer but perseverance paid off. Have been reading all of your blogs. I support you in anything that you want in life but would certainly miss you down here in Waukesha. I know how much you miss your Mom and I know I haven't been of much help. I still miss my Mom although it has been many years. I think that is a hurt that never goes away.
Please keep in touch and let me know what your plans are. I always wish you the most happiness in life - wherever you find it.

    Much Love,
    Mary Ann
